You can defer your offer for most courses we offer. This means you can postpone the start of your course for up to two years.
Deferment will be subject to the course being offered in the requested intake. If you want to defer an offer you have already accepted, you need to complete the Deferment of offer form prior to census date of your first session of study.
On campus international students should contact us for more information on deferment options.
The only Higher Degree by Research offer that can be deferred is the Doctor of Information Technology. All other offers for Higher Degree by Research courses (e.g. Doctor of Philosophy, Masters (Honours) and Research Professional Doctorates etc) cannot be deferred. Please contact us if you cannot commence study in the session you have been offered so that we can explore the option of an offer to a later intake.
You can use your deferment time in many different ways. For example, you can ensure you have the skills you need for university study by completing a STUDY LINK subject. These are short, self-paced online subjects which aim to fill knowledge gaps, increase skills and build confidence. There are 20 subjects across the areas of Science, Maths, Writing, Transition to University, Statistics and Technology. They can be accessed whilst you are deferred, and although they don’t provide credit, they are free for Commonwealth supported students. You may also wish to consider an overseas experience or doing work experience in your industry of interest to give you a head start in your chosen field. CSU Global is available to help you explore your options in this area.
We’ll keep you informed about what's happening at CSU throughout your deferment period. You will receive reminders regarding key dates to ensure a smooth transition to your study. Don't forget you can contact us at any time.
